Lagoons near Reykjavík
You don’t have to leave the capital area for a great lagoon. Sky Lagoon sits on the ocean’s edge in Kópavogur, about 15 minutes from downtown. Reykjaböð, at the mouth of the Reykjadalur valley in Hveragerði, is 35 minutes east, and the tidal hot springs at Hvammsvík are 45 minutes north on the Whale Fjord.
Any of them makes an easy half day, or a first or last evening in Iceland. Further out, Guðlaug is a small public bath on the beach in Akranes, and the Blue Lagoon is in the lava fields near Keflavík Airport, about 50 minutes from the city.
