Hoffell is a farm about fifteen minutes from Höfn, at the foot of Hoffellsjökull, one of the glaciers that spill down from Vatnajökull. Geothermal water was found on the land in 2000. A few tubs went in, and over the years the place has become a favourite with locals and Ring Road travellers alike.
It’s still small, family-run and quiet: four tubs joined by a stone path through the grass, a sauna and a little bar. The facilities are simple, but the setting, a wide valley ringed by mountains, is spectacular, and the evening opening hours give you a fair chance of northern lights in autumn and spring.
“Four tubs joined by a stone path through the grass, in a valley ringed by mountains.”
The farm also runs Glacier World, with a guesthouse whose guests can use the tubs for free, and glacier walks on Hoffellsjökull just a few kilometres away.
