Hveragerði is Iceland’s hot-spring town. Steam rises from people’s gardens, and for years the big draw has been Reykjadalur, a valley above town where a hot river runs through the hills. Getting there takes an hour’s hike each way. Reykjaböð, which opened in September 2026 right at the trailhead, brings the hot springs down to the road.
There are two halves to it. The lagoon is a 900 m² open-air pool of mineral-rich sulphur water with an in-water bar, next to an outdoor ritual area with an event sauna, a two-temperature cold plunge and a Kneipp walk that alternates hot and cold water. Guided sauna rituals run at set times through the day.
“A Snow Room kept at around minus ten, filled with real snow.”
The Bathhouse is the other half: adults only, inspired by Japanese onsen and capped at around fifty guests. Its ten sensory spaces run from a herbal pool and a float pool to a fire pit, an infusion sauna and a Snow Room kept at around minus ten, filled with real snow. Phones stay in the locker.
